Social Media Strategy & Web Design for Artists

Social Media Strategies for artists

   Watch Promo

Until very recently, the job of promoting an artist’s work has long been in the hands of non-artists: gallerists, curators, collectors, patrons, journalists and public relations teams, all professionals with their own sets of business interests. With the mass spread of the internet and social media, artists now have the ability to be their own promoters and can manage their careers following only their own instincts. Almost total autonomy is possible today, as artists can design their own websites, promote their gallery shows on Twitter, show images of a developing studio practice on Instagram and make important social and professional connections on Facebook. You can now effectively cut out the promotional middlemen, once and for all!

This eight-module course will help you do just that. Consisting of a weekly newsletter subscription that includes strategic advice for artists, grant listings and interviews from Yale University radio, there will be ample information for those wanting to pursue museum exhibition, gallery shows and various special projects. It will be delivered every Sunday by email and will also be available on the Praxis website for enrolled students.

In this course, your website will be reviewed by Brainard Carey. He will then lead you through the online course with two lectures about the necessary steps to build or redesign your website for maximum effectiveness and how to best engage with your desired audience. Brainard will also discuss the social paradigms of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Ello and Periscope in their uses as both promotional tools and artistic mediums in their own right.

In the online forum, you will be able to meet other students and receive individualized advice from Brainard Carey. You will also get access to all of the other classes, which are included with your registration!
